Simple wisdom like – every action you perform from getting up in the morning, showering, choosing your clothes for the day is a sacred moment – resonates to my core. I so much enjoy being in the presence of a person living this wisdom.

On Sunday, November 25th, a Native American Elder from the Havasupi tribe named Uqualla visited the Unity Center of the Valley in Cottonwood. He performed some beautiful ceremonies. In one I recognized the tune to “Over the Rainbow.”

He responded to questions from Bruce Kellogg, the Unity Minister. At times his responses were in the words of his Native worldview, talking of the two-leggeds and Grandfather Sky and Mother Earth. He spoke of our journey and spiritual purpose. It was all very poetic in its clarity as he made his gentle points.

I will let Uqualla tell it in his own words. The following is excerpts from a transcription of that talk he gave.

Our Journey

What we will never understand is the essence of the spirit within us.

Do not get caught up in trying to decipher the world. That’s not your purpose in this journey.

Your purpose in this journey is to be the best being that you are, placed in the most appropriate place – and that is where we’re at right now.

Listen with an open heart because it will take you where you need to go.

Spirituality in everything you do

The essence of spirituality within the indigenous people is to remember that everything that you do is all ceremonial.

When you get up that is ceremonial. When you walk and allow for water to wash your body – that is ceremonial. When you look in the closet trying to figure out what you are going to wear – what color – you are donning your ceremonial clothing.

These are things that are all a part of that ceremony. It is so simplistic. When we try to make it so difficult, that’s when we become the casualties of this spiritual walk.

So therefore we need to honor every aspect. And if I could just sense not just what you’re wearing and sense the beauty that is coming from within, then I truly am unfolding in a beautiful spiritual way.

If the essence of your every waking moment is ceremony – and you need to recognize it as being ritual – and when you are conscious with that – that is the way our ancestors looked upon spirituality.

Universality of All Teachings

The essence of all is universal. So that is why there is really truly in the teachings all of us – for whatever grouping, for whatever denomination, for whatever the belief systems – the common denominator is all similar.

They all have a belief that there is something that is greater. There is a knowing that there is something beyond the essence of the two-legged silhouette.

Therefore when the Native person walks out, they walk out – and it is a requirement, part of our spiritual law – to spend it out on that land. When you walk out on that land the essence of that vibration that is within – that is living, that is infusing into you.

And if this being is cleaned and ready, it will listen and hear in the most beautiful ways. And you will be so amazed as to how your know things without even having to have someone to tell you.

They say go out to grandfather tree, go out to grandmother rock, go out to all that is there, and not one is any stronger or better. It’s you that is calling that one individual so you go sit beneath it or stand next to it. So holy sites are all right here (tapping his heart).

So take this and it will guide you where you need to be and allow yourself to be open and in readiness for all that is to come. So when you look upon this creator source, it is all this (waving his hands all around) and all this has their specialties as each one of us has our own specialties. And they will call to us, they will come to us when we are ready for them and their assistance.

No Expectation – Simply Enjoy

There is no expectation and there never should be expectations in your journey.

The essence for you is to actually just exist and enjoy the beauty and love and happiness of your journey because when this is in happiness with all that is around, automatically spirit is coming out from you and you don’t even have to say a word. So therefore, when we are amongst all of this, we are automatically this wonderful tool that is going to have an effect on everyone.

The key is to allow yourself that ability to step aside. For me, when I am in spirit’s work I cannot speak from the physical place. The physical place is simply the tool that allows for the voice box to work. I have to step aside into third person and allow for all of this to come through.

Because if I step in there, I’m going to be name-calling, I’m going to be doing all sorts of things that aren’t appropriate. But that is part of our beings and they do have a place so enjoy yourself and you can be a little ornery now and then. That’s there for a purpose, too.

It is important for you to let the essence of your journey to speak that belief without ever to have to say a word. And that’s the aura or energy that is coming through each one of you

Let the visions that are coming through – the dreams of what you’re seeing outside – bring forth into that journey. But when you are allowing yourself to listen to this (points to the world outside the room) – it’s all right – we’ve got to have that –

Our biggest challenge now is to take this essence of energy and vibration and love which is within this room and memorize it – they always say memorize, memorize, memorize. Because when you go out there you’re going to have to take this feeling out there and without even saying anything you walk by them.

We awaken the beauty that is within.

We have got to remind each other always and not just once, and not just on a certain day. Always so you walk, you breathe, you let that energy emanate.
