Ouch!
Aches and pains: just go away! If that’s what you’re feeling, that’s what you’re thinking, right?
After a quick spot treatment, aches and pain can persist, or come back after going away shortly – despite our best efforts at relief!
That’s when we reach for a pain pill. But we know that is not a long-term solution.
What to do then? Don’t give up and “live with it!”
Pain Relief
“Get to the cause” is a refrain of Natural Medicine. Was it opening a window that caused the pain? NO. That motion may have been the trigger, but it was not the cause.
What set you up for a pain or injury when opening a window is felt or unfelt tension, the real cause on the physical level. And the tension holds unresolved issues.
Most of us hold slight imbalances from tension. Since we compensate for them most of the time, we don’t feel them as pain. We don’t even feel them as an imbalance. When we are not aching or in pain, there can still be tension patterns in muscles and connective tissue (called fascia) that keep us off balance.
For example, I am usually not aching or in pain. Yet, look at my alignment in gravity as shown by a plumb bob:
You can see that I am not standing on a slanted surface, so it must be me that is off-balance! Somewhere I have tension which is pulling me to one side. Since I am not in pain, it is an imbalance I am not aware of until I look at my alignment in gravity. This is an imbalance which could set me up for an injury or pain when doing repeated or strenuous movement.
Avoiding pain and injury
“Prevention” is another refrain of Natural Medicine. I practice prevention as well as treatment with Bowen bodywork. This gentle work with the soft tissues, muscles and connective tissue releases tension in muscles and fascia. It also affects nerves and blood flow, opening up the body and restoring balance.
That balance from Bowen bodywork goes beyond the physical level. When tension is released from our tissues, we have the opportunity to release mental and emotional tension. All from a gentle hands-on treatment.
After the first phot was taken, my body was encouraged to balance by Bowen bodywork releasing areas of tension, felt or unfelt, physical, mental or emotional.
After the Bowen, look at my body’s alignment!
Don’t let the hiked hem of the shirt fool you. Look at how much more centered the plumb bob is!
And I can help you, too
These photos were taken at a Bowen bodywork class that I recently attended. I now have deeper insight into treating the cause of imbalance in your body. It is also THE treatment for a subtle rotation in the body, which I have observed in many people.
If you wonder if you have a rotation in your body which imbalances you, possibly setting yourself up for injury or pain, make the following observation:
- Stand in front of a full-length mirror so you can see yourself head to foot.
- Now turn so your right side is facing the mirror.
- Look for an alignment in gravity of your ankle bone, the middle of your knee, the middle of your hip, the middle of your shoulder, and the middle of your ear.
- If they don’t line up in gravity, there is an imbalance.
- If they light up perfectly, congratulations, you are aligned – on this side.
Wait – you are not done. For people who line up on one side, you must check the other side. For people who did not line up on the right side, you still need to check the left side to learn more.
Put your left side facing the mirror and look for the alignment of your ankle bone, the middle of your knee, the middle of your hip, middle of your shoulder, and the middle of your ear. Note what is out of line.
Imbalanced?
I speculate that those that are aligned on ONE side have been getting bodywork and paying attention to their posture.
Yet I suspect that most of those DO NOT line up on both sides. This may be due to a rotation in the body. And what I just learned in the Bowen class I attended about releasing muscles and fascia with Bowen bodywork can remedy this rotation! It did mine!
If you have checked your alignment, and are imbalanced or rotated, please give me a call at 928-649-9234 so we can get started right away with Bowen bodywork.
And – certainly – if you are in pain, please also give me a call so we can determine if we can get to the cause of your pain with Bowen bodywork! It is complimentary to call 928-649-9234 to chat with me about how to get to the bottom of your pain.
