Is medication the only answer for women with low thyroid function?
The answer is NO, according to a study published this year using individualized homeopathic treatments.
Who was studied?
19 women
over 40 years old, with a mean age of 56 years
TSH lab value was 5 – 10 mIU/L, signifying an underactive thyroid
How were they treated?
These 19 women received individualized homeopathic treatment, that’s all. No other treatment was given. They were given homeopathic remedies which matched their particular symptoms associated with low thyroid.
These women were followed for around 6 years with lab tests taken for the TSH value around 18 times during that time.
What was the result?
The conclusion in the study stated: The homeopathic therapeutic intervention was successful.
13 of 19 women saw their TSH lab values return to the normal range of 0.5 – 5 mIU/L.
This is a 68% success rate.
What does that mean for you?
If you are in the beginning stages of low thyroid function, you may be able to get better with appropriate homeopathic treatment.
If you were tested to have a TSH lab value outside the range, but less than 10 mIU/L, you have an option to not take thyroid medication and seek homeopathic treatment.
What this study did not look at was a measurement of thyroid antibodies. They may have been elevated and become normal with treatment, or not.
Herbal treatment for people with high thyroid antibodies can return them to normal levels. One herb that has shown to be effective is Nigella Sativa. This is especially significant in people who have an underactive thyroid shown by a TSH between 5 and 10.
I use both these approaches in my treatment of patients with underactive thyroid. Getting natural treatment at early stages can reverse course and restore thyroid function to normal.
