2019: Ease & Creativity

I have a feeling about this new year 2019 that has just started.

Do you feel it too?

During the last two years, I felt I paid my dues. Not that I did not have fun. Yes, I did have fun times. Hawaii and Spain and Mexico and finishing my book and meeting a lot of you and enjoying the life I have made in Cottonwood.

However, after these last two years, the time now feels like things are breaking open wider.

I just spent a lot of time in the last weeks, actually, in the last months, finishing up things, clearing the way, simply getting things done. It was a drive to not have any lingering energy pulling me back. I am ready to move forward, in a clear and determined way.

I feel things stirring up with creativity.

Sparks of inspiration are all around, and are moving me to sit down and let it express. I am starting to see in more full detail the outline of what is being created. I get the foundation of it; I am starting to see where it is going. Once I apply myself and let the creative stream flow through, then I can enjoy the beauty of what is being created, because it is here and not unformed in the ether.

Hmm . . . I just looked up the word ether, because it drew may attention. I wondered: why did that word come through?

The Google dictionary says the literary definition of ether is “the clear sky; the upper regions of air beyond the clouds.” It sure feels that I am in touch with the clear sky, that region beyond the clouds in my mind. I am in touch with that clear upper region which feeds me creative content.

I love this kind of creativity, in which things just flow through me, clearly and easily. I am drawn to read something which explains where I was going in some other project. I talk to someone and another connection is made, a spark is lit. In a moment, the answer is obvious, when it was not the moment before. I even feel a familiar feeling in my head when this happens.

Sometimes creativity is a little different experience. It is the experience of finding the third way when presented with two options. It is seeing two things and finding that they are related not as fractured parts of each, but as a third thing which integrates them in a new way. This new way shows a larger perspective and includes both things as they are. Neither is compromised. They each are honored, but hold a place in a bigger picture. I wrote about this in a blog called “Beyond Either / Or.”

I feel this year to come is filled with both these kinds of creativity.

I feel this year has an inner demand for caring of the highest kind, caring for all beings not just ourselves or our tribe. This kind of caring is inherent when the creative impulse comes from the ether, that upper region beyond the clouds of thinking and self-interest. It is the caring the Creator has for every little bit of Creation. This kind of caring can be called love, in my experience.

When guided by creativity, we can create our lives honoring universal principles. We can be open to moving beyond our selfish self-interest, which looks out for me at the expense of others. We can move beyond putting our tribe above all others. To truly be open to the creative impulse, we are open to the Creator who sees all as part of all which have their part to play, not just a favored few.

When guided by creativity, we can see the creative force at work in the world in the form of the third which unites and uplifts two things. We can see the how rain and sun act on the earth to make things grow. We do not wish only for the sun. We do not favor the rain. We are open to, and allow both because they then are allowed to come together to nourish the earth.

In the same way, we can apply this to thornier problems. I do not wish only for my point of view on an issue, when you have another point of view. By hearing out and honoring both points of view, we can create a new perspective. It is not striking a compromise, because that implies that I give up something and you give up something in order to have an uneasy solution. When we give up something, we chip away at who we are just a little bit. It is possible to honor both our perspectives and create a new solution that is not giving something up. That is the third way. That is the way of creativity.

Easier said than done, until we are open to the creative forces running through Creation. When we allow creativity, at first, it can look messy. Eventually, something beautiful arises. When we allow the creative flow of 2019 to run – and fun – through our lives, we open to possibilities so far never imagined.

This is the promise of this year numbered 2019.
