Laura Vandegrift introduces us to movements which create a brain – body balance.

Have water handy to sip for hydration, and join us for these simple exercises for more alertness, focus and balance.

The last exercise, Hook Ups, gives you exactly what you need: it can bring down anxiety or give you energy when it is low.

We start with PACE – positive, active, clear, energetic warm-up.

First, energize by drinking water.

Second, activate the Brain Buttons.

  • rub points below the collarbone with one hand
  • hold other hand on the navel
  • while the eyes scan slowly from side to side with the head looking straight forward
  • after a minute or two, switch hands for another minute or two

Third, do the cross-crawl

  • hand goes across the midline to the opposite leg while lifting the leg
  • other hand goes across the midline to the opposite leg while lifting the leg
  • repeat at least eight times

Fourth, do the Hook Ups.

  • put arms out in front of you, then cross one over, then twist them into your body so your shoulders can relax
  • same side hand that was on top, cross that ankle over the other
  • watch breaths with the tongue on the roof of the mouth during the in breath and loose on the out breath
  • do at least one minute, then switch sides for at least another minute
  • uncross and touch the fingertips together as if holding a ball and hold for another minute or so
